Luminous Minds
“Luminous Minds” is a portrait photography series that challenges society’s harmful and negative stereotypes of mental illness and those affected by it. It does so by proposing and introducing a new perspective, highlighting mental health issues’ positive and beautiful aspects. That there is beauty to be found even in the broken.
The portraits in this series show everyday people captured in an intimate and emotional way. The incorporated light leaks are unique and vary from image to image, reflecting each person’s individual experiences and adventures, adding a new level of meaning and emotion to the portraits. Depicting the unpredictability and complexity of psychological issues.
The portrait series exemplifies how something labeled broken or flawed can be beautiful with the aim to make mental illness more accessible and the people who struggle with it more human; To normalize the subject. I want people to embrace their “issues” and realize that it makes them unique and can be something beautiful, instead of hiding them and feeling ashamed. People should feel empowered to talk about their problems, share them, and seek their help.
