Matterverse is an attempt to liberate the self from being a slave to digital gestures. In a time when our bodies are becoming more embedded in the digital, I took the time to reflect upon my own gestural behaviour and the number of interactions with digital media and came to the conclusion that I too am a slave of gestures.

Scroll Exaggeration

The definition of digital is an interesting one. It refers to the use of information represented by 0s and 1s, , while the etymological origin of the word is the Latin Digitus. the duality of the word reflects the importance of the body and its relation to technological devices such as smartphones, tablets and pcs. yet the definition of virtual: “not physically existing as such but made by software to appear to do so” forces the consideration that these digital artefacts are not physically engaging at all.

With my iPhone screen time averaging around 3 hours per day, I felt the urge to break free of these gestures and to replace my bodily involvement when using modern devices such as an iPhone or tablet.
