“July 14th” is a documentary film that informs about the history and current situation of wild and captive cetaceans on the Island of Tenerife.
I started this project to portray the issues marine mammals have to face in the Island’s waters and on the Island itself, after working as a wildlife photographer and whale-watching guide in Tenerife since 2021.
The center of attention are solutions for the future, concentrating on respectful whale watching, wildlife sanctuaries for the animals and possible collaborations with Zoos. There are several sides to the story and both external researchers and Zoos will have the opportunity to speak. Through an open discussion, I hope to bring the parties together for a collaborative effort.
At the graduation show you will be able to see the trailer!

About me:
I’m a photographer and filmmaker with a focus on social-documentary and wildlife projects. Before my studies, I worked for more than three years in the movie industry gathering experience working in the camera, sound, and light departments. Between 2019 and 2023 I studied Fine Art Photography at the WdKA.
Next to my studies I kept working on external film projects and also started to work as a wildlife photographer and guide on a whale watching boat on the Canary Islands in 2021. At the end of my second stay in Tenerife in 2022, I started working on my graduation project and debut documentary “July 14th”. Together with many amazing people, I managed to produce and fund the trailer of the documentary that was shot in May/June 2023, which will be shown at the WdKA graduation show. In the upcoming months I will be working on getting more people and more funding for the project to be able to realize the main shoot.
