Don’t tell me fairy tales

“Don’t tell me fairy tales” is a visual installation consisting of a series of paintings on wooden panels and the research publication presented below.

Lisa deconstructed some pieces of modern Russian propaganda, looking for elements that make it believable, using theories of folklore structure and fairytale tropes. In the paintings she reconstruct them into a story of her own. It acts as a more true-to-life version of the narratives occurring within Russian propaganda. She utilizes images of fairytale characters and functions, images of home, images of modern Russian political landscape, and images of war, seamlessly weaving them into a narrative.

The backdrop is shaped like a nalichnik, a wooden window decoration common in USSR; my childhood country house is decorated with those. The other pieces are shaped like magical animals.
