”Together we can make it out Alive”

Imagine one of your earliest memories as a child, the hazy visions that come to mind and the nostalgic feeling connected to it. Then try to visualise a memorable dream. Which parts of these memories are a true representation of the past? And how much of this is brought to you by fantasy and imagination?

Emilie Montfoort takes inspiration from her personal sub-conscious. Dreams and memories form the base of her creations. In combination with recognisable imagery from her youth, the semi-abstract paintings with implementations of sculptural craftsmanship are intended to evoke the feeling of collective nostalgia.

Interpretation and fantasy play a big role in the experience of viewing the work. While there are given elements that might be familiar and contain symbolic aspects, a person’s individual and unique life experiences will give them a personal perspective. So, the same experiences can mean different things to different people.

The search for a substantial embodiment of the immaterial is supported by the multi-media choice in material. In ‘‘Substantial Visions’’ each of the works has a different approach in visually welding dreams, childhood and memory together.
