In Loving Memory

A silent testimony to the interaction of matter and its continuous reconfiguration in the urban space.

Traces form the non-literal language of interaction; one that cannot be read, but can be understood through acts of speculation, empathy and memory. Signs of wear, dents and scratches; objects being forgotten, dragged or forcefully removed all contribute to the scarring of the urban fabric and further the layerings of context. The manuscripts of matter and the transcripts of past events. The installation In Loving Memory reinterprets found traces in the urban space as a speculative language, blurring the margins of readability and absurdity, perception and representation, meaning and being. By combining and rearranging signs, a series of embossed fabrics emerge, exploring the rhetoric of traces and creating alternative narratives within the urban space, while commenting on its inner dynamics. The research-based publication “A smile, the circus, waterdrops” accompanies the installation and further contextualizes the topics of traces, voids and potential within urban spaces.
