“How can urban farming combined which utilizes vertical farm be spatially branded to enhance understanding of new agricultural technologies and improve environmental awareness?”

This project focuses on combining renewable energy systems and urban agriculture to reduce the carbon footprint. The project considers ways to target specific groups and develop strategies for building brand identity. Additionally, the project emphasizes effective communication, interaction, and engagement with people

The current world population of 7.6 billion is expected to reach 8.6 billion in 2030, 9.8 billion in 2050, and 11.2 billion in 2100, according to a new United Nations report. According to FAO, the UN food and agriculture agency, population growth needs to be met through a 60 % rise in agricultural production. How are we going to provide everybody with basic needs while also avoiding the worst impacts of climate change? The increase in greenhouse gases, the biggest factor in human impacts on the global environment, is deeply related to food culture.

Smart farming, which has emerged as an alternative to future food and climate recovery problems, represents the direction for the future of agriculture. Cities are advancing urban agriculture through technological innovations such as smart farming and increasing the proportion of food produced within the city. By doing so, they can reduce food distribution distances, ensure a stable food supply, and pursue sustainable agricultural production methods. Therefore, in the future, it will be crucial to connect sustainable smart farming with urban agriculture to build a more sustainable urban food system.

In this project, I propose an urban farming flagship store that incorporates smart vertical farming in the city and aims to increase awareness of sustainable food production through ROFFARM (Urban Vertical Farming Hub). This store not only provides groceries but also serves as an educational space for visitors to learn about urban agriculture, plant cultivation processes, and environmental issues related to agriculture. Additionally, the project features workshop and commercial spaces to support visitors’ understanding of production structures and healthy lifestyles through various vertical farming experiences.
