Audrey Avenue
Having experienced a life of perpetual uprooting, there is a yearning within me to find solace in transforming spaces into personal sanctuaries as a means to capture fleeting moments of home. The project Audrey Avenue incorporates visual and sensory storytelling, a relationship between textiles and photography, aiming to create an environment that reflects the first and last memories I can recall of a proper childhood spent with my entire family in the United States. A house on Audrey Avenue.
This nostalgic exploration serves as a vehicle for me to navigate the emotional terrain in longing for a stable, physical home and structured belonging. Linking motifs of common symbols that structured my childhood to archival imagery to curate my own space of belonging and comfort. Allowing for immersion in vibrant garments and playful landscapes to link back to the childlike wonder of creating and evoke emotional self-healing in displacement, longing, and alienation. Utilizing crochet and knitting as more than creative techniques within my practice as they become tools for healing, mending broken bonds, and expressing emotion through motion. As I weave together the fragments of my experiences, creating a sense of wholeness, the handmade art relates to comforting memories of my mother teaching me how to knit; reminiscent of home.
