In dit project creëer ik objecten met afdrukken van specifieke plekken en spullen in het huis van een overleden dierbare, zodat de nabestaanden de sfeer van die geleefde ruimte mee kunnen nemen naar hun eigen huis.
De afdrukken in deze kunstinstallatie symboliseren de absentie van de overledene en tonen de achterblijvende bezieling van spullen en ruimte.
In this project I create objects with prints of specific places and items in the house of a deceased loved one, so that the next of kin can take the atmosphere of that lived space with them to their own home.
The prints in this art installation symbolize the absence of the deceased and show the remaining inspiration of things and space.
De afdrukken maak ik met beige transparante stof. Deze verwijst naar de verkleurde afdruk die ontstaat op de wand of de vloer wanneer er spullen tegenaan hebben gestaan.
I make the prints with beige transparent fabric. This refers to the discolored print that forms on the wall or floor when things have been placed against it.
Ik onderzoek de afdruktechniek door met verschillende stoffen te experimenteren. Het maakproces is in voortdurende ontwikkeling.
I explore the printing technique by experimenting with different fabrics. The manufacturing process is in constant development.
Het maken van de afdrukken lijkt een soort ritueel te worden, waarin je een intiem moment hebt met datgene waarvan je de afdruk maakt. Toen ik bijvoorbeeld de afdruk maakte van het deurslot, werd ik me bewust van details zoals de materialen en de beschermende functie. Er kwamen herinneringen en een gevoel van dankbaarheid naar boven.
Making the impressions seems to become a kind of ritual, in which you have an intimate moment with what you are making the impression from. For example, when I made the impression of the door lock, I became aware of details such as the materials and the protective function. Memories and a sense of gratitude came flooding back.

Mijn motivatie komt voort uit de connectie met persoonlijke spullen die ik bij anderen ben gaan zien tijdens mijn baan als woningontruimer. Hierdoor ben ik gaan onderzoeken wat de toegevoegde waarde is van spullen van een overleden dierbare voor de nabestaanden en hun rouwproces. Spullen weerspiegelen de eigenaar en zorgen voor een verbinding tussen generaties. Daarnaast kunnen ze ook interesse opwekken en inzicht geven in bepaalde keuzes die geliefden hebben gemaakt en het leven dat ze hebben geleid.
My motivation comes from the connection with personal items that I have come to see in others during my job as a house cleaner. This led me to investigate the added value of belongings of a deceased loved one for the bereaved and their grieving process. Stuff reflects the owner and creates a connection between generations. In addition, they can also generate interest and provide insight into certain choices loved ones have made and the lives they have led.
