Endangered, threatened, extinct.

That is sadly where our story begins.

“Anthorceros Omnium Finis”

In an age of deforestation, factory farming, detrimental pollution and mass extinction we must find ways of shifting the systems of imbalance. This work aims to initiate ways of coping with the vast amount of loss of the natural world. Guided by the Ecofeminism of Val Plumwood to stray away from “hyperseperation” and propose new forms of living in mutual benefit with each other and our environment. Focusing on the building of narratives for these creations. Stories of compassion, of honoring the lost, of crafting pedestals for life forms too often overlooked, forgotten, ignored.

“Naufraga Ut Unum”

Tales of the Extinct is a sculpture garden accompanied by a poetry book. Each sculpture is inspired by a plant species that has become extinct in a country that I used to live. These species were then re-imagined and hand crafted into a representative sculpture. They are partnered with a written re-imagination that blends together facts and fiction, fables coaxing awe and curiosity.

“Persea Schiemorsus”

we must take into our own hands the power to create, restore and explore different stories, with new main characters.

About Lorena

I am a Rotterdam based visual artist and writer. I grew up traveling between Africa, Europe and South America. My works center on themes of care, nurturing and co-existence, finding new ways to live in mutual benefit with other, with living and non-living creatures. I build handcrafted hubs of harmonic contradictions, making us question the certainties we hold on to.
