I think it is important to make my projects sustainable. To achieve this effectively, my research question focuses on the various ways in how you can attach to a waste product and the impact of this.

By using a waste product, such as wool in my case, you create something new from a material that would otherwise be discarded. I collected the wool from two different sheep farmers in the Netherlands. I processed the wool, which I find important because it gives me more control over the production process. This way, I am more aware of the waste and emissions that are produced. Beside that I like the unique hand made look and every piece is different. To emphasise the diversity of this material, I chose to make a construction out of wool. Wool is not commonly considered a strong material, so by creating a structure from it, I wanted to demonstrate its usability and versatility for various purposes.

If you attach to a product, you are less likely to throw it away, which is essential for reducing excessive waste. I’ve made it easier to bond with this product. The product comes with a warranty, encouraging users not to dispose if it gets damaged. Furthermore, it is an everyday product, making it less likely for people to throw it away. The product responds to your personal interests and values. It is a dynamic seating object that you can always adjust and give it a new shape that suits you and your interior at that moment.

The impact of attaching and using a waste products is that it makes the world a bit more sustainable. I don’t think this story needs to be immediately visible in my product. I want the customer to buy the product primarily for its emotional and aesthetic value.
