In ‘Draag Droeg Gedragen’ (Wear Wore Have Worn), I have researched my love for shoes.
The first shoes that kick-started my shoe obsession were my dad’s formal shoes. In this work I pretend to be in these beloved shoes and notice that they will never actually fit me. I talk about caring for the wrinkles and scars which appear as you grow up. I also address family expectations and generational pain in this multidisciplinary project.
By combining the concepts above, with my love for making and craftwork, I have four works to present in the graduation show. Above you see four stills of ‘Polijsten’ (Polishing). Under here you see ‘Knuffelen’, a 120×200 cm oil painting. The title image is a still from a performative video called ‘Maat 43’. And last but not least I have a sculpture ‘Heavy Tears’, where tears will fall from growing shoes.
About Robin
As a multidisciplinary maker, I create magical realistic and playful works. In these works, I touch upon themes as nostalgia, family, identity, and behavioral patterns. I started as a realistic oil painter, mostly painting self-portraits as a way of introspection. In the past few years in the at WdKA I started experimenting with more materials, and discovered my love for woodworking, ceramics, collaging, and video-making. This I combine to create a multi-medium, humouristic, colourful art universe.
