Leaking as publishing work is a book about whistleblowers who leak information to disclose the truth.

I see the act of whistleblowing as the act of ‘making public’.

The urgency to publish for the public good.

Whistleblowing seen as urgent publishing.

The book consists of two parts; a visual translation of two whistleblowing cases and a research paper I have written on how the context of the whistleblowing cases – the environment and the nature of the information – influences the way of publishing and how the approach to publishing can increase access to truth.

I re-designed the raw whistleblowers’ material through data-driven systematic storytelling. By framing, zooming-in/zooming-out to create an experience of overwhelming complexity and through that conveying the importance of the topic.

The goal is to rethink publishing practices to influence whistleblowing practices and the other way around. The book wants to highlight the creative and political relevance of leaking as publishing work.

The project Leaking As Publishing Work is a very thorough exploration of whistleblowing looked under the lens of urgent publishing.
(Evangelia Athanasiadou)

The publication is very well designed with much attention to detail, typography, and material.

It has become an artwork in itself!
(Nanna van Heest)

You can open the first part of the book on any page and take in a self-contained piece of information. The more information you take in, the clearer and more context on the cases you get. The first part of the book contains the “what,” what information whistleblowers leak, and the research represents the “how,” a new perspective: seeing the benefits of leaking as publishing.

In the first case, the pages act as a literal pile-up of wrongdoing collected over the years. Whereas in the second case, the pages act as the flipping of time. It shows a clear contrast in the context between the two cases.
