Ink Dweller is a playable demo of a 3D video game. Set in a world of paper and ink and explores themes of religion, manipulation, and guilt. Following the story of a mother who tragically loses her daughter and her anger at those she blames. It’s inspired by my experience growing up in a ‘religious school’. Exploring the anger and guilt felt for the innocent experience of youth that was corrupted. And the emotional and social conflicts my friends and I faced because of our upbringings’.
The demo itself is a functional prototype of a game in which the player progressively gains more and more agency. Testing how agency can create moments of self-reflection.
Despite the demo being mostly a technical proof of concept, to see if I could make a game in this style. Lots of work and research went into its development and the story around the game.
Message behind the gameplay
Creating reflectivity through gameplay.
The player will start with little control but will have to deal with the consequences of their actions none the less. Emulating the feeling of unfairness that societal pressure can create.
As the player continues, their newfound agency aims to give back a sense of power.
